This course is for professionals and students, including expectant families who want to develop and deepen their understanding of infant development and care. RIE I training can be applied in settings such as the natural family, the childcare center, and family childcare. The course includes lectures, discussions, videos, visits to infant care centers, and for those taking the course in Los Angeles, a unique opportunity to observe RIE parent/infant classes at the original home of RIE.

Topics include: 

  • an overview of the RIE philosophy 

  • gross motor, fine motor and social-emotional development 

  • designing the environment 

  • the art of observation 

  • parents' and infants' needs, expectations and learning 

  • appropriate "curriculum" for infants and toddlers
